Trade and Industry Minister Dr Rob Davies appoints Lotteries Board

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies is pleased to announce the appointment of the new Chairperson and members of National Lotteries Board for a period of five years with effect from 2 December 2009 to 30 November 2014. The term of the current board of the National Lotteries Board as chaired by Mr. Joe Foster came to an end on 2 December 2009.

The new board will comprise of the following members:

Professor Afred Nevhutanda (non executive Chairperson)
Dr Nevhutanda is currently a member of the Arts and Culture Distribution Agency of the NLB. He has in-depth understanding of and experience operations the National Lotteries Board, as well as extensive experience in the public sector.

Advocate George Negota
Advocate Negota is a practicing attorney and is currently a member of the National Lotteries Board. Advocate Negota will be serving a second term as he is currently serving on the board. His appointment will ensure compliance with the legal requirement set in the Lotteries Act, 1997, for a legal practitioner to be appointed on the board.

Ms Mathukana Mokoka
Ms Mokoka is a chartered accountant and has knowledge and understanding of financial management. Her appointment will ensure compliance with the legal requirement set in the Lotteries Act, 1997, for a chartered accountant to be appointed to the board.

Mr Obed Shabangu
Mr Shabangu’s has extensive experience on boards and board type committees, especially focusing on rural development and community based structures. His articulation of developmental issues in the context of government policy and the Lotteries Act, 1997, contributed to him being a suitable candidate to serve on the board.

Ms Ndileka Loyilani
Ms Loyilani has worked extensively with non-governmental organizations in communities. She is involved in a number of projects geared towards development and uplifting persons with disabilities, as well as promoting opportunities for their advancement.

Mr Govindasamy Reddy
Mr Reddy demonstrated the necessary business acumen to serve on the board and has knowledge and understanding of matters relating to lottery matters and grant making processes.

Ms Zodwa Ntuli
Ms Ntuli is the Deputy Director-General for the Consumer and Corporate Regulation Division at the dti. Amongst other things, Ntuli is responsible for the lottery and gambling policy and legislation, including implementation.

The Minister is confident that the new board will take forward measures to expedite processes relating to the distribution of funds to worthy causes so as to advance the development of our needy communities. This board will also be responsible for overseeing of the licensed national lottery operator, Gidani, and to advise the Minister on matters relating to the national lottery.
