On 30 August 2005 the dti Executive Board approved the revised Chemicals Sector Development
Strategy and Programmes to be issued as a draft document for public comments.
The chemicals sector development strategy was developed to increase competitiveness, exports,
investments, employment and equity in the sector. Based on objective analysis, this strategy
document provides a platform to translate key strategic challenges and opportunities facing
the sector into related interventions, goals and key action programmes.
This strategy also serves as a framework for industry players to develop and align their own unique
competitiveness strategies. In addition, it seeks to give existing and potential investors in the
chemicals sector some certainty on the strategic direction Government is taking.

there is a responsibility to guide and oversee the implementation thereof supported by all identified
role-players. the dti will lead the implementation.
