Midrand - Monday 08 May 2017 – The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies, visited the tablet and capsule manufacturing facility of local pharmaceutical manufacturer, Adcock Ingram, on Monday 08 May. The visit, which took place at Wadeville in Germiston, included a delegation from
, the senior management team of Adcock Ingram and representatives from Proudly South African.
“This event is part of our ongoing programme of engagement with government, to share information and create a better understanding, especially on issues of policy affecting our industry and the potential capabilities we can offer as a manufacturer,” said Clifford Raphiri, Chairman of the Adcock Ingram Group.
The Wadeville facility is a state of the art tablet and capsule manufacturing site which is positioned to produce the antiretrovirals (ARVs) marketed by Adcock Ingram and supplied to the State and the private sector.
“The Wadeville facility has received support from
over the past number of years through the Strategic Integrated Projects (SIP) and the Manufacturing Competitiveness Enhancement Programme (MCEP) incentive schemes,” continued Raphiri. “We are currently undertaking a R66 million upgrade to areas of the plant, which include the microbiology laboratory and the dispensary. The Adcock Ingram manufacturing facilities continue to receive ongoing attention and investment to meet regulatory requirements and for expansion and modernisation purposes.”
The tablet and capsule facility is one of three local manufacturing sites under the Adcock Ingram umbrella. The high volume liquids facility situated in Clayville was expanded and upgraded in 2012 with a focus on environmentally friendly technologies, while the Aeroton factory is a leading supplier of hospital and critical care products, such as intravenous fluids, blood bags and renal dialysis products.
“Adcock Ingram remains a key player in the local pharmaceutical sector and its continued investments in upgrades and expansions in manufacturing contribute to the upscaling of the productive capacity of this sector, supporting the deepening industrialisation programmes within South Africa and on the Continent,” says Minister Rob Davies.
