SA Exporters Welcome Latest Edition of Fresh Produce Export Directory

2018-02-10

The South African Fresh Produce Exporters Forum (FPEF) has launched the 2018 edition of the Fresh Produce Export Directory at the Fruit Logistica Trade Fair in Berlin. The Export Directory contains information about the South African fresh fruit and vegetable exports, including details of its members, fruit varieties and statistics about fresh fruit export volumes, exports periods, and export destinations of South African fresh fruit.

Attending the official launch at the South African Pavilion, the Trading Operations Manager of Unifruit. which is based in Somerset West in the Western Cape, Mr Riaan Ellis said as the citrus and table grape exporter, the export directory is an extension of many of their marketing tools in terms of attracting new clientele and business.

“Our main focus as a business is to continuously expand our export market regions that we have not made an impact yet. We received a lot of emails throughout the year from potential importers all around the world who have seen our details in that book. So to me the book is essential for South African exporters and we are grateful that the country has such an initiative to support the industry,” said Ellis.

The Managing Director of Sino Gold, Mr Carl van der Westhuizen said it is every exporter’s vision to have a global footprint and also to promote their respective brands through the export directory.

He added that since he company has been featured in the directory, their export sales of table grapes, apples and pear has steadily grown over years.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of FPEF, Mr Anton Kruger, the directory is published annually as a service to, and a source of information for the international fresh produce trading community.

He said as a non-profit organisation with more than 130 members of fresh fruit and vegetable exporters and other services, the organisation prints 5 000 copies of the publication each year and is also available online.

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies recently highlighted the need to assist Small and Medium Enterprises to penetrate new emerging markets in terms of market access   particularly the European Union and Asia. Therefore, the Export Directory will support South Africa’s positioning as a supplier of choice.

Twenty-five South Africa businesspeople have assisted by the dti to participate in the Fruit Logistica Berlin Trade Fair that started earlier week. The trade fair covers every sector of the international fruit and vegetable supply chain from production, distribution and marketing, through to the point of sale, including global players as well as small and medium-sized suppliers from all around the world.
