the dti gazetted the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) Verification Manual on 18 July 2008, for purposes of accreditation and verification of B-BBEE-related reporting by the South African National Accreditation System (SANAS) and Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) Verification Agencies. I, Mandisi Mpahlwa, Minister of Trade and Industry, pursuant to the Notice published on 21 June 2007, hereby prohibit the use of certain words, letters emblems, devices and numerals in terms of section 15(1)(b), read together with section 15(2) and 15A(2), (3), (4) and (5), as depicted in the attached document. The Corporate Laws Amendment Act, 24 of 2006

Finally, the Corporate Laws Amendment Act, 24 of 2006 is coming into force. The Corporate Laws Amendment Act was assented to by the President and published in Government Gazette no. 29804, Notice no. 348 of 17 April 2007. The effective implementation of the Act was nevertheless reserved for a later date to be proclaimed by the President. The Minister and the President approved the President's Minute and the Proclamation on 12 November 2007. The Proclamation now comes into legal force on the date of publication in the Government Gazette. Read more

Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Government Assistance & Support Programme

On the 06th December 2006, the South African Government approved a Cabinet memorandum recommending substantial Government Assistance and Support for the accelerated development of the BPO (business process outsourcing) sector. Read More

Developmental Electricity Pricing Programme (DEPP)

This incentive, developed in consultation with Eskom and the Department of Public Enterprises aims at attracting industrial investment projects to the Republic, which would in the absence of DEPP not invest in the Republic, through providing them with electricity tariffs that will, where justified in terms of competitive international electricity prices.

the dti Launches the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Verification Manual
The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) gazetted the Verification Manual on 18 July 2008 (No. 31255) to provide a framework for the accreditation and verification of Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) reporting. The South African National Accreditation System (SANAS) and Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) Verification Agencies, and verification industry at large, are expected to benefit greatly from the establishment of these comprehensive guidelines, and norms and standards, on the validation of accelerated transformation in South Africa. Implementation of landmark SACU-EFTA Free Trade Agreement
This communiqué serves to confirm the operationalisation of the landmark Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the Southern African Customs Union (SACU), comprising Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland, and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), comprising Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, on 1 May 2008. the dti Launches The Enterprise Investment Programme
A new incentive targeted at stimulating growth, employment and broadening participation will be introduced later this month. This was announced by Trade and Industry Minister, Mandisi Mpahlwa at the launch of the Enterprise Investment Programme (EIP) in Pretoria today. EIP will initially comprise of the Manufacturing Investment Programme and the Tourism Support Programme.
