Enterprise and Industrial Development Division (EIDD)
EIDD's purpose is to provide leadership in the development of
policies and strategies that create an enabling environment for
competitiveness, equity and enterprise development.
EIDD will contribute to the realisation of the dti's
strategic objectives by:
- Creating an enabling environment for all enterprise forms, including
co-operatives, to prosper
- Providing a framework to enable participation of women and black
people in the economic mainstream
- Identifying new geographic areas for greater economic stimulation
- Providing a framework for industry norms and standards including
sustainable production methods
- Influencing policy developments in skills building, technology and
infrastructure
- Providing policy direction in emerging sectors and also the
repositioning of the economy in higher value segments to achieve
competitiveness
EIDD has three business units:
- Competitiveness and Industrial Development
- Enterprise Development
- Equity and Empowerment
Competitiveness Business Unit is responsible for bringing
together integration in the coordination of Strategic Competitiveness
policy and strategy for unlocking of downstream opportunities in value
chains to enhance competitiveness of the industry.
Enterprise Development Business unit is responsible for
creating an enabling environment for small, micro, medium-sized
and co-operative enterprises to contribute to the country's Growth
Development Plan (GDP). This responsibility entails the development
of legislative frameworks, policies, strategies and programmes aimed
at lowering the barriers to entry and stimulating the participation
of these enterprises in all sectors of the economy.
Equity and Empowerment Business Unit is an enabler to bring
about broad-based economic empowerment, by providing policies and
policy framework; strategies; and implementation models. The business
unit will focus on the formulation of policies and strategies for the
non-traditional economic operators and it will strive to provide
maximum attention and assistance on gender, race and geographical
location of such organisations and communities.
